Here's where to find the new Star Wars series with Amanda Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae in Canada.

The Acolyte, a new live-action thriller series in the Star Wars universe created by Leslye Headland, starring Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, and Carrie-Anne Moss, among others, will premiere on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

In Canada, as with most of the world, The Acolyte will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+, the streaming service which is home to the full Star Wars theatrical franchise, as well as series including The Mandalorian, Andor, Ahsoka and more. The Walt Disney Company has, of course, been the sole owner of the production company behind the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm, since 2012.

A subscription to Disney+ is available in Canada starting at $7.99 per month for the Standard with Ads plan, which as the name implies, means that episodes stream with advertising breaks. An ad-free version of Disney+ is available starting at $11.99 per month. Annual plans, with a lower average per-month price if you pay upfront for a year, are also offered.

Episodes of The Acolyte are currently scheduled to be released on Disney+ weekly on Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time (6:00 p.m. Pacific time, 10:30 p.m. Newfoundland time) up to and including July 16.

Will I be able to watch The Acolyte in Canada without Disney+?

It's possible, but it's not likely in the short term, in terms of means authorized by Disney / Lucasfilm. The majority of Disney Plus original series have been exclusive to that platform for quite some time after release, and only a few have received legitimate physical releases.

In a few rare instances, Disney+ original series (such as Ms. Marvel), or specific episodes (such as the pilot episode of The Mandalorian), have aired on Disney's linear TV channels, such as the ABC broadcast network, which is available in Canada. However, most instances of this occurred during, or shortly after, the 2023 Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes, which had a severe impact on other original programming and forced networks like ABC to get creative to fill their schedules. Absent another similar event, it's unlikely of anything similar occurring in the near future.

In the long term, again, a physical release is possible; Disney has also become increasingly open to sell second window rights to certain series to third-party platforms. But if that does happen at all for The Acolyte in Canada, it probably won't happen for several months, if not years, after the season is fully released on Disney Plus.
