Where can I watch "Rutherford Falls" in Canada?

Here's where the well-reviewed Peacock sitcom starring Ed Helms and Jana Schmieding is available in Canada.

Rutherford Falls, a sitcom created by Ed Helms, Michael Schur, and Sierra Teller Ornelas, and starring Helms, Jana Schmieding, and Michael Greyeyes, set in a fictional upstate New York town with a large Indigenous population, and noted for having the largest Indigenous writing staff for an American TV show to date, premiered on the Peacock streaming service in the United States on April 21, 2021. A second season premiered on June 16, 2022.

In Canada, where Peacock does not operate, the broadcast and streaming rights to Rutherford Falls are held by Corus Entertainment, under an agreement with Peacock's parent company NBCUniversal announced in June 2020 covering "marquee" Peacock originals produced by NBCU-owned studios like Universal Television (which include Rutherford Falls).

As such, the series airs in Canada on the Showcase cable channel, and is also available on Corus' streaming package StackTV. Season 1 of Rutherford Falls premiered on Showcase on April 29, 2021, about one week after the Peacock release, but then rolled out weekly on Thursdays. The second season premiered in Canada on August 9, 2022, with episodes scheduled to air weekly on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET for eight weeks.

If you get Showcase as part of a cable, satellite, or fibre TV package, you will most likely be able to stream episodes through the Global TV website and app by authenticating with your service provider credentials. Alternatively, you can watch Rutherford Falls through the aforementioned StackTV, which is available through a number of platforms including:

  • Prime Video ($12.99 per month on top of your Amazon Prime subscription, which is $9.99 per month or $99.00 per year);
  • Rogers Ignite / SmartStream (as low as $9.99 per month depending on your service); or
  • FuboTV Premium ($39.99 per month, as part of a package that also includes Premier League and Serie A soccer coverage, which is exclusive to Fubo in Canada).
  • RiverTV, a similar service operated by Quebecor / VMedia which costs $16.99 per month, offers equivalent access to Showcase and other Corus channels (though these inclusions are not marketed as "StackTV" as they are on Fubo), and also includes Family Channel, CHCH, and more.

The first season of Rutherford Falls is also available for one-time purchase through digital retailers including the Apple TV / iTunes Store, currently retailing for $19.99; subsequent seasons will likely be available after the season finishes airing on Showcase.

All prices in this article are in Canadian dollars, before applicable sales taxes, and were last checked on August 10, 2022, but may be subject to change.

Why has there been a delay between the American and Canadian releases of each season?

Unfortunately, we don't have an exact answer as to why at this time. However, we have noticed that this has been a pattern for Corus, which has frequently delayed the Canadian releases of Peacock programming. Similar delays have occurred with other Peacock series including Girls5eva and Queer as Folk.

Presumably these delays have allowed Corus to air the shows at times that better suit its own scheduling needs – and perhaps to keep people subscribed for longer, rather than allowing customers to binge-watch the season right when it premieres, and then immediately drop its services.
