Foundation, the highly-anticipated science fiction drama based on Isaac Asimov's book series starring Jared Harris and Lee Pace, premiered on Friday, September 24, 2021.

In the United States, Canada, and everywhere else where the service operates, Foundation is available exclusively on Apple TV+, at least for the time being. It's possible that it may be available in some other form in the future, like digital purchase, but we don't know enough right now to know if or when that might happen.

Apple TV+ is available in Canada for $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year (all prices are before applicable sales taxes), with a seven-day free trial available as of this writing to first-time subscribers, and longer trials available if you purchase a new Apple device (or occasionally another supporting device) and activate the trial promptly after purchase. Apple TV+ is streamed through the Apple TV app, which is available on Apple devices like the Apple TV 4K and iPad, as well as a wide variety of third-party streaming devices and smart TVs.

Even if you don't have a newer TV or set-top device that offers the Apple TV app directly, if you have one that supports Apple AirPlay, you can use any recent iPhone or iPad to cast Apple TV+ content to your bigger screen.

Will there be any other way to watch Foundation in Canada if I can't access Apple TV+?

It's theoretically possible, but it probably won't happen for a while.

Foundation is being produced by Skydance Television, part of the independent production company Skydance Media owned by David Ellison, which began developing the series in 2017, and sold the streaming rights to Apple in 2018.

As such, we expect that Skydance will own the underlying copyrights to the show, and may retain distribution rights on other platforms, as has been reported for the producers of other Apple TV+ original series like Ted Lasso. In that case, the production company behind Ted Lasso, Warner Bros. offers digital sales of seasons after each season ends, and may have the ability to sell linear broadcast rights on a delayed basis.

That said, we don't know the exact terms of Skydance's production agreement with Apple; terms that apply to one Apple TV+ program do not necessarily apply to all programs.

So for now, Apple TV+ will be the only authorized way to watch Foundation in Canada.
