Where can I watch "The Wheel of Time" in Canada?

The Wheel of Time, an epic fantasy series based on the novel series by Robert Jordan, starring Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, and Marcus Rutherford, among many others, finally debuted in late 2021, after over a decade of development in various forms, including a pilot aired as a paid program in late night in 2015 as one of the production companies involved in these efforts tried to hold onto the TV rights.

The series debuted worldwide on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 19, 2021. The first season will consist of eight episodes, with the first three episodes available immediately, and subsequent episodes released weekly on Fridays until December 24. A second season has already been ordered and will likely debut in late 2022 or in 2023.

Prime Video is only available in Canada as part of Amazon Prime, the online retailer's membership program, for $9.99 per month or $99 per year (as of April 2022), plus taxes, with a 30-day free trial available for first-time subscribers in most provinces.

Is there anywhere else I'll be able to watch "The Wheel of Time"?

It's very unlikely that The Wheel of Time will be available on another streaming service, or any other broadcaster, at least in the short term. Unlike some other series that Amazon has co-produced like Good Omens – which Prime Video shares the rights to in some parts of the world like co-producer BBC – Amazon will be debuting TWOT globally without another broadcaster being involved.

There is, however, another large studio involved: Sony Pictures Television, which began its involvement in the series in 2017, before Amazon came onboard. It's possible that Sony may hold onto some other distribution rights, like the ability to sell digital copies and/or DVDs of the series through retailers, or broadcast rights to linear television channels. But even so, it would likely be several months, if not years, before Sony would be able to exercise those rights.

So for the time being, the only place to watch The Wheel of Time in Canada, or almost anywhere else in the world, will be on Amazon Prime Video.
