Where can I watch "I Care a Lot" in Canada?

The dark comedy film I Care a Lot, written and directed by J Blakeson and starring Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage, received a streaming release in much of the world on February 19, 2021. It's available to stream in Canada on Prime Video, at no extra charge for Amazon Prime subscribers (as of April 2022, $9.99 per month or $99 per year, plus taxes, with a 30-day free trial available in most provinces).

Isn't "I Care a Lot" a Netflix film?

Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film in much of the world, including the United States, in September 2020, shortly after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. In the countries where it has rights, Netflix is allowed to brand the film as a "Netflix Original" despite not producing it originally. As a result, particularly after Pike won a Golden Globe for her performance in this film, I Care a Lot has been described as a "Netflix film" in much of the North American media.

However, I Care a Lot is not available for streaming Netflix in Canada – or, for that matter, in several other English-speaking countries like the UK and Australia. That's because the film was produced independently by Black Bear Pictures, which has a partnership with another company, STX International, which kept the distribution rights in these countries.

STX, in turn, sold the streaming rights for most of the countries where it controls the film to Amazon in early 2021, leading to its availability on Prime Video as an "Amazon Original" in those countries instead of Netflix.

Thus, in Canada, at least for the moment, the only place you can stream I Care a Lot is on Prime Video.
